The Brownswood Set - Writing Group
We are a group of writers of all kinds of work - novels, short stories, academic work, scripts, poetry, flash fiction, and more.
We meet once a week, on Tuesday evenings, predominantly in order to write but also to talk about what we are working on. The standard format of the group is heads-down writing until around 1940, then whatever else anyone wants to do or talk about.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of what you are writing.
[The Brownswood](https://thebrownswood.co.uk) is a fantastic local pub, located close to Clissold Park/Highbury/Stoke Newington/Finsbury Park. It has a large - and quiet - upstairs area.
Please grab something to drink/eat from the bar, and join us upstairs at 1800.

The "Product Manager" has never fit one mould, and AI is pulling the seams apart faster than ever. The consulting PM with the polished decks, the big tech PM optimising a metric three layers deep, the engineer-turned-PM still half in the codebase—these archetypes shape how we hire, coach, and judge PMs, but they were always more caricature than craft. This month we put them on the table and ask what's still true.
Our speakers share their own journeys and talk candidly about how the role is shifting as AI moves from a roadmap item to a collaborator in the work itself. Expect honest stories over tidy frameworks, and a real look at how the role mutates depending on where you sit.
**Our speakers:**
[Kiran Virdee](https://www.linkedin.com/in/kvirdee/) \- Head of Product @ Accenture UK

[Valeria Stromtsova](https://www.linkedin.com/in/lerastromtsova/) \- Product Owner @ myenergi
As always we will close our meet-up with a candid discussion and Q&A.
This event is sponsored by Accenture UK.

Pitch.London - Founder Matchmaking & Speed Problem Solving
Pitch.london is a curated speed-networking event for founders, operators and serious builders.
Short, structured conversations. Sharp prompts. Real chemistry, fast.
The hardest problem in early-stage entrepreneurship is finding the right people. Most events leave it to chance. We don’t.
The room is curated, the prompts are clear, and the format is built for high-signal encounters between people who are actually building something.
In one evening, you can meet more relevant people than you might in months of random networking.
Two formats. One room. Zero fluff.
**01\. Founder matchmaking pitches**
Sixty seconds to share who you are, what you’re building, and what would actually help right now.
Whatever you’re looking for, the room is built to help you find it: people to build with, people to hire or be hired by, advisors and investors, or honest feedback on what you’re shipping.
**02\. Group brainstorms**
Small, time-boxed groups tackle a real challenge brought into the room.
Bring a live problem you’re stuck on. Get five minds on it for ten minutes. Leave with new angles and next steps.
**This room is for you if you’re:**
* A founder seeking a co-founder
* A founder seeking a first hire
* An operator looking for a serious team to join
* A technical builder open to commercial partners
* A commercial builder open to technical partners
* A second-time founder scoping the next thing
* An angel investor close to the early-stage scene
It’s probably not for you if you’re hunting for clients, selling services, or still working out what you’re looking for.
**Run of show**
* 17:30 to 18:00 Doors, drinks, soft start
* 18:00 to 18:05 Welcome and the rules of the room
* 18:05 to 18:35 Speed pitches: Round 1
* 18:35 to 19:15 Group brainstorms
* 19:15 to 19:45 Speed pitches: Round 2
* 19:45 to 20:00 Open networking, then drinks at the citizenM Skybar
**What’s included**
Your £25 covers your seat in the room and a drink at the citizenM Skybar after the programme.
**First 30 in get a seat**
Capital Ring Part 14 - Hackney Wick to Beckton District Park
We will be walking section 14 out of 15 of the Capital Ring walk. Starting from Hackney Wick station, we will walk along the Greenway, past Abbey Mills pumping station and Greenway Community orchard and finish in Beckton District Park.
We will be walking for approximately two hours with a break in between. The pathways are mainly on level tarmac paths with a few moderate slopes but it is mainly flat, and there shouldn't be any issues with mud even if it has been raining.
I'll keep a watch on the forecast and will cancel the event a day or two before if the weather is looking bad. Keep an eye on the event chat which I'll update a day or two before to confirm we are going ahead.
We will meet just outside Hackney Wick overground station at 10:45 at the White Post Lane exit (North side). Unless there is a transport issue affecting everyone, we will aim to start off on the walk at 11am. I will add my location tracking on Glympse so if you are late, we will not wait but you will be able to catch us up.
After the walk at Beckton I am planning on heading to a local pub for a drink and a bite to eat. If you are up for coming along please indicate in the comments. I'm estimating we would reach the end of the walk at Beckton for around 13:00. The nearest station to the endpoint is Royal Albert, however I understand this station is closed on the Sunday of the walk and the nearest next open DLR station is Prince Regent, around 15 minutes walk.
Old Compton Brasserie - Dinner Club’s 15th Birthday continues
Our second dinner to celebrate 15 years since Ian set up the original Dinner Club takes us to the fabulous Old Compton Brasserie.
An all-day brasserie in the heart of Soho, committed to bringing to the neighbourhood great food, wine, beer and award-winning cocktails.
Created out of a desire to address the needs of the local creative community, Old Compton Brasserie serves as a drinking and dining destination that boasts a vibrant yet relaxed setting.
A village full of low-lifers and high-lifers, romantics and realists, drunks and dreamers, sex workers and bar workers” (Colin Vaines, The Guardian). While Soho has most definitely been gentrified in recent years, there is still a beautiful mischievousness to it that leaves its visitors with intrigue and inquiry.
Old Compton Brasserie sits upon one of Soho’s most infamous streets, known for its buzzing restaurant and bar scene. A risqué, lively hotspot full of colourful characters ready to celebrate love and life. There is a vibrancy, exoticness, brilliance and an abundance of life that, arguably, you won’t find anywhere else.
And to add to that, Old Compton Brasserie serves delicious food! A perfect venue to celebrate 15 Years of bringing people together for food and fellowship.
Our evening begins with the optional pre-dinner drinks at Village Wardour Street. Join with others from 6pm for the chance to meet, mingle and chat before heading up Old Compton Street to our dinner venue.
We will be eating from the £35pp menu (you can order on the night). As we are a large group, we will be sat on several tables rather than just one.
[Group menu for your information](https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6021eb1cf94c921352b95829/t/69ce37e0e1eec52099961aec/1775122400450/OCB+MENU+GROUP+NEW+APR+2026+%281%29.pdf)
Please note, we maintain the policy of splitting the final bill evenly between the number of attendees.
After Dinner we shall head to The Friendly Society to enjoy some post dinner drinks. This is optional.
So, if you’d like to attend this special celebration, please rsvp. You will need to pay a deposit of £10 plus £1 and other small fees for Meetup/paypal transactions etc. The £10 you pay will come off what you need to pay on the night.
It’ll be great to get this meal full. Let’s meetup and celebrate!

L is for... London Museum Docklands
**Join us for a visit to London Museum Docklands**, **which tells the fascinating story of London's docks and their profound impact on the city.**
The museum is set in a refurbished 200-year-old sugar warehouse and reveals the long history of the capital as a port through stories of trade, migration and commerce, from Roman settlement to Docklands' regeneration.
Themed state-of-the-art galleries such as ‘London, Sugar & Slavery’ and ‘Warehouse of the World’ take you on a chronological tour of the port. London's transformation into a global trading hub, the impact of immigration on its cultural tapestry, and the crucial role the docks played in wartime resilience are all highlighted in the galleries spread over three floors.
Explore the dark alleyways of London’s Sailortown, an immersive display which recreates the atmosphere of the ramshackle London district, close to the docks, in the mid 19th century.
Discover the recent history of the thriving area we now know as the Docklands and how, just over half a century ago, it was a derelict wasteland after the closure of London’s upriver docks.
