Hi all, us at NeuroSparks and our friends over at NeuroDisco are hosting another monthly board game event! Whether you're new to boardgames, or an experienced player, this could be a great way to meet like-minded people and have some fun too. **The venue:** Drop in at Gameology from 12pm onwards, there will be a wide range of board games for you to grab and play, but you can also bring a board game from home if you'd like. Gameology is also a games store, so feel free to browse what they have available or chat to the friendly staff for help or questions at any time. The board games room where we’ll be hanging out in is on the left as you enter the store and has air conditioning. It also has a limited drink selection, however you’re free to bring food from outside to enjoy in between playing. The cafe across the road called Lux Foundry, or Ima Pantry around the corner are particularly good! But please be mindful of avoiding getting either the venue's or other attendee's games dirty. Each month Gameology collects donations for a different charity. Since they very kindly let us borrow their space, if you attend this event it would be appreciated if you could make a gold coin donation. While a donation is not compulsory, it is greatly appreciated in getting a little more community love and support. **Location:** There is very limited parking at the front of the store as well as in the surrounding area. However, the venue is close to public transport. The closest train station is Anstey station on the Upfield lane and the number 19 tram on Sydney road. There is also the number 508/509 bus line, with the closest stop being on the corner of Sydney road and Blyth street. The venue will also be closing at 5. The Great World of the title refers to the setting of "The Great World", a fairground in occupied Singapore serving as a Japanese prison camp, where the protagonists meet. It also refers to the mind "the same shape as the world, and really was the world, only on an infinitely small scale", as one character observes. The two main characters' relationship is central as the men feel out their stance to each other. The New Yorker calls it "a rare serious novel... (with) an elliptical sense of time... render(ing) it poetic." Since starting this book club a few years ago we have formed a nice core membership. If you haven't come yet, please look out for the books on the table, pull up a chair, order a wine and join us. It is commonly used in biomedicine to predict the beginning of tumor growth, to predict how long ago someone was infected with a disease, and even to predict the time since death for criminal investigations. Inference through Bayesian statistics and mathematical modelling can allow for time-since-event prediction and provide insight into the mechanisms driving an event. Machine learning is also used for time-since-event prediction but lacks the mechanistic insight Bayesian inference can provide. However, Bayesian inference, especially through Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, can be computationally expensive and time-consuming. In this talk, I describe a method for combining Bayesian inference with machine learning to improve computational efficiency while also maintaining mechanistic insight. This is demonstrated through the case study of estimating time-since-infection using antibody data. **Speaker bio:** Felicia is a PhD candidate at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research where she is conducting mathematical modelling of the immune response to understand more about infectious disease dynamics. In another life, she was a data analyst for the National Health Funding Body in Canberra through the Australia Bureau of Statistics Data Graduate Program.

Shipping one to production is a different problem. This talk is a systems engineering lens on agentic AI, starting from the moment a single LLM call becomes a decision loop through the architectural tradeoffs that determine whether it survives contact with reality. We'll cover the control spectrum between deterministic workflows and autonomous agent loops, multi-agent coordination, state management, and what a real control plane looks like beyond rate limiting and logging.We'll also cover the failure modes that don't appear in demos: runaway costs, missing stopping conditions, and observability gaps. You'll leave with a framework that treats human-in-the-loop design, model selection, and control plane engineering as first-class architectural decisions, because agentic systems are not prompt engineering problems. They are systems engineering problems.
