Curious about martial arts but don’t know where to start? Join us for an outdoor Taekwondo Forms session led by **Sophian Ben**, a French Taekwondo practitioner who teaches in English, Mandarin and basic Cantonese. This class focuses on forms (patterns) – coordinated sequences of movements that build strength, balance, focus and body awareness. No sparring, no pressure, just a friendly space to move, learn and have fun. Whether you are a complete beginner or you have some martial arts experience, you are welcome. The pace will be gentle and progressive, with attention to posture, breathing and mindful movement. Think of it as a moving meditation plus a light workout. **What we’ll do** ● Short warm‑up and joint mobilization ● Introduction to basic Taekwondo stances, blocks, kicks and hand techniques ● Learning and repeating simple forms (patterns) step by step ● Short cool‑down and stretch, with time for questions and sharing **Who is this for?** ● Beginners who want to try martial arts in a relaxed setting ● Yoga / fitness people curious about Taekwondo as mindful movement ● Anyone who enjoys learning new body skills and improving coordination No previous experience is required. As a new yoga teacher (200 YTT certified), I’m excited to share the practice of stretching and Hatha Yoga with others, guiding you through mindful breath and purposeful movement. We’ll explore foundational poses, gentle alignment, and slow, steady stretches that honor your body's limits while inviting greater flexibility and balance. My intention is to create a supportive space where we practice together, learn from each other, and cultivate calm, focus, and presence both on and off the mat. In this 1‑hour class, we practice gentle stretching and Hatha yoga with mindful breathing, focusing on basic poses, clear alignment and slow, steady movement. The pace is beginner‑friendly, with options to go deeper if you already have some experience, and the goal is to leave you feeling calmer, lighter and more connected to your body. I didn’t grow up with a sports background, and my body is naturally quite stiff and not very coordinated – that’s exactly why yoga has been so helpful for me. It gave me a gentle way to start moving, and over time it’s helped me build flexibility, mobility and strength in a way that feels kind and sustainable. If you feel stiff, out of practice or nervous about joining a class, you’re very welcome here – this session is designed with beginners and “not‑so‑sporty” people in mind. **This class is for you if you:** ● Are new to yoga or returning after a break ● Want a simple movement routine without a gym/studio membership ● Prefer small, relaxed groups and a supportive atmosphere ● Are local or travelling and want to enjoy the waterfront with mindful exercise **About the instructor – Sophia Chu** Sophia is a 200‑hour certified yoga teacher and practicing landscape architect with experience in hospitality design, giving her a strong eye for space, atmosphere and how nature and cities shape how we feel. She is also a landscape architecture lecturer, used to guiding groups step by step and helping beginners feel at ease. Originally from Taiwan, she has lived abroad for over two decades, teaches fluently in English and Chinese, and welcomes people from all backgrounds. We'll hike 3.4 miles on the Killdeer and Yellowlegs Trails - both out and back gravel trails. If we want more mileage we can repeat an out and back. Pace of around 3.5 mph, no one left behind and those who want to go faster sure can! As always optional lunch after. This is the second Metro Park in the lineup for me - with 21 to go (plus more are being added).
