Hike: Malveira da Serra - Peninha - Ulgueira - Ursa - Cabo da Roca
Details
Length: 5 hours, 14km. Total ascent: 450m. Please see at the bottom for the new rules that will apply during the "state of contingency" in Portugal/Lisbon.
Weather forecast: https://www.ipma.pt/en/otempo/prev.localidade.hora/#Lisboa&Cascais
We will meet in Cascais Bus Terminal, underneath the CascaisVilla shopping center, near Cascais train station. We will take the Scotturb bus 403 towards Sintra Estação, leaving at 10:10 and arriving in Malveira da Serra at 10:29. If you live in Lisbon then should should take the 9:20 train from Cais do Sodré, arriving in Cascais at 10:00. We'll wait for everybody arriving on this train if it is late (buses are every half-hour), however we will not wait for you if you missed the train.
Buses back from Cabo da Roca towards Cascais or Sintra on Saturdays are every half-hour in each direction.
Please note that this is NOT a circular hike. If you want to come separately by car, you may either park in Malveira da Serra or in Cabo da Roca and take a bus journey respectively at the end or at the beginning of the hike. In this case please let us know in advance in the comments section so we can look for you.
If you want to use the GPS track provided above, you just need to install a GPS app on any smartphone. Among the best GPS apps to use in Portugal (i.e. that come with some useful maps for our country) are https://www.viewranger.com/en-GB/get-the-app, https://www.locusmap.eu/download/ and https://www.twonav.com/en/downloads.
This event is free. It will be limited to 10 participants. RSVPs will open at 8pm on Wednesday.
Pack a picnic lunch and at least one and a half litre of water.
This event will be postponed or cancelled if there is a risk of significant rain.
In order to participate you must have a name on your profile with contains at least your first name in clear. Whether you already have a place or are still in the waiting list, if you later change your mind about coming, then it is very important that you change your RSVP, so another member can participate instead and you don't receive a "no show" mark for this event.
Special "state of contingency" rules applying to this event:
-
Group size strictly limited to 10 people (over 10 would be against the law).
-
Minimum distance between participants of 2 metres if side by side or 4 metres if in a line/row (so you should expect conversations to be limited during the day!).
-
Masks compulsory during transport (public transport OR car sharing).
-
Maximum 4 people per car if car-sharing.
-
Nobody infected with or presenting symptoms of Covid-19 is allowed to participate.
It will not be compulsory to wear a mask during the hike and in fact I don't really recommend it because it can hinder breathing and so I don't consider it appropriate for any sports activity, however this is completely up to you.
David
