18km/11 miles Hike -Hambledon and Turville Circular with stop
Details
This is scenic walk that takes us high over the wooded Chiltern hills and to the picturesque Chiltern village of Turville. This village was used for the outdoor shots for the Vicar of Dibley, Midsomer Murders, Lewis, Marple and Jonathan Creek along with a host of films.
We will then climb to the top of Turville hill to the cobstone Windmill which appeared in the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, where we will stop for a picnic lunch and the amazing views down the Hambledon Valley.
From Turville, we head to the next village of Fingest, used in the filming of Monument Men with George Clooney and Matt Damon.
On to the tiny village of Skirmett where we will stop at the pub "The Frog"for a drink. The pub has a great garden for sitting outside on a sunny day but does not allow hikers to eat their sandwiches.
The hike then follows the green pastures of the Hamble valley to the legendary village of Hambleden at the end of the walk.
The walk begins at the Stag and Huntsman car park, postcode RG9 6RP. This is in the village itself off the Skirmett road and a mile from the junction at Mill End near Henley-on-Thames.
We will stop at the green in Turville Heath for a break and eat our packed lunch. Depending upon the weather and timing, we will potentially stop at the barn cafe for drinks but will require phoning ahead to advise on our arrival time.
You will need to wear appropriate footwear as the ground is likely to be wet and muddy.
With the weather turning colder, wear appropriate clothing, hat and gloves and pack waterproofs too.
Due to this being an earlier start than usual, we will aim to arrive back at the Stag and Huntsman for around 2:30. I great place to stop for a Sunday roast.
There is a charge of £5.00 (cash) per person payable on the day.
This fee is used to help with the running costs of the group, Meetup fees and Insurance.
My number in case of any problems on the day is 07810 548101.
