YOU MUST WATCH THE FILM ON YOUR OWN BEFORE THE EVENT
Welcome to the first ESL langauge club for art film reviews on Meetup!

The Movie We Are Going to Watch
Ulysses' Gaze (1995) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114863/)
An exiled filmmaker finally returns to his home country where former mysteries and afflictions of his early life come back to haunt him once more.

Meeting Agenda

  • Everyone gives a quick 20-second self-introduction (if there are newcomers present)
  • Everyone takes turns to share their thoughts on the film (usually 3-5 minutes per person)
  • Roundtable Discussion: Whenever you feel ready, press the "raise hand" button and chime in!

General Guidelines

  • Once every two weeks, we will discuss a film. You'll be expected to have watched the films (independently) before the events. Neither Meetup nor we will display the films.
  • Fluency in English is necessary. Nevertheless please do not correct other attendees unless they overtly ask you to do so.
  • Many art films contain sexual or violent scenes. Thus, some of the films you will watch may contain mild sexual or violent scenes. Attendees may mention those scenes during discussion. But, please, do not mention such content out of the film's context. Any discourse, which is rude or hostile towards attendees or towards any group of society, will not be tolerated.
  • This event is exclusively for adults (+18).
  • This event is completely free and we will not ask for donations.
  • Please don't share your personal information (like your address, your credit cards, ID Number, passwords etc.) with other attendees or the host.
  • For security reasons, please make sure that your Zoom name matches your Meetup name so we know you are not a Zoom bomber.

Side Notes
This event is posted in multiple meetup groups, language learning websites, as well as our official discord group. Therefore, THIS RSVP LIST IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ATTENDING THE EVENT. So even if you only see one person RSVPed in this meetup group, there will always be others in attendance from other groups. We tend to have at least 6 on average. By inviting numerous groups that increases the likelihood that those in attendance will be from varying backgrounds and beliefs. This is done purposefully to provide everyone with the opportunity to hear a wide range of perspectives.

How to Prepare
You'll be expected to have watched the films (independently) before the events. Make sure you have access to a Zoom account, a webcam, and a microphone.
