# Practice your second language by meeting up with speakers in Halifax
Many meetups focus on one language, but the International Language Exchange meetup provides an opportunity to practice many. At a regular gathering we have speakers of many languages. Don't be shy! Learners of all levels, from beginner to native fluency, are welcome!
How it Works
This is an informal language exchange - you come knowing at least one language you are willing to help others learn, and at least one language you want to learn. You can help people learn your native language and others help you learn their native language by sitting down and striking up a simple conversation, for example. There is no fee to participate.
You can talk to whomever you want, and come and go as you please... think of a laid-back cocktail party. There will often be a national flag of the language people are practising on each table. Organizers can also introduce you to people who want to learn your language. If there aren't any speakers of your target language, ask for a flag and wait around; you can practice another language until someone arrives for your target language. If you are comfortable finding native speakers of your favourite language yourself, that's fine too! Go mingle.
Please remember to introduce yourself to an organizer first, so we know who's who.
Remember:
- Support local! There is no event fee, but please remember to buy a drink from our local Oxford Taproom. In doing so, you will help us to continue to host events.
- Be open-minded! We are a very diverse group. You'll meet people from all over the world, and every background and lifestyle. Enjoy the chance to experience cosmopolitain Halifax!
- Ask the organizer! If you have any questions, concerns, problems or ideas, please talk to the organizer about it!
- Pics happen! Sometimes photos are taken. By participating in the group, you agree that you may be photographed and the photos may be shared online. If you don't want to appear in any photos, just let everyone know.
Questions?
If you have any comments, questions, problems, concerns or ideas, just talk to the organizer about it. We will do our best to make sure you have a positive experience! People of all language levels, from beginners to fluent, are welcome!
