We're very happy to have Horace Dediu [1] with us in an online event to analyze the crypto space using the theory of disruptive innovation [2] and related ideas. Horace is known for his analysis of Apple and for coining the term "Micromobility" [3] to refer to small vehicles like bikes, e-bikes, and scooters. Rather than a talk, the event will be structured as a discussion; the following intro comes from Horace:

"Disruption theory is over 20 years old and Technology Diffusion theory is over 60 years old. How are they related and how do they help us predict the future of cryptocurrencies and related technologies? One is a theory of competition and substitution, the other a theory of imitation and introduction.

"In this open discussion we will explore the history of technology diffusions (over 140 available) and look at patterns for understanding what determines the speed of adoption and the psychological and sociological foundations that affect adoption and substitution.

"We will also propose hypotheses on the mechanisms of valuation and fundamental value which appear absent."

We will begin the event with a short discussion of Horace's recent work on transportation in the developing world [4] and make comparisons to to proof-of-stake. This event will be online; use the link [5] below to connect (you don't need to join the group to participate). We hope you'll come!
