As the current iteration of the conservative movement continues to escalate its attacks on trans people in the United States, it does so by asserting that there are only two sexes and that one’s gender is immutably connected to one’s sex. It would be easy to assume this only harms the roughly 1% of the population who is trans, but in fact this harms us all. Drawing from his own journey of self-discovery and the people who inspired him along the way, Grayson will share what he’s learned about gender, identity, and how breaking free of restrictive boxes is an essential component to the fight to build a better world for us all.
Grayson Rosen began attending the Ethical Society of St. Louis in 2017 after leaving the church he was raised in, in search of a community where he could find belonging without having to share specific beliefs. Since then he has come out as trans, has earned his Master of Arts in Counseling from Webster University, and is currently partnering with Terrace House STL to provide counseling for trans, queer, and neurodivergent clients. He specializes in supporting clients in self-exploration & identity development, developing self-compassion and self-trust, and building a life that aligns with their values. As his past self, Grayson earned his BA in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology from Principia College, studied abroad in India, served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, worked with adult refugees in St. Louis through AmeriCorps, and supported international students at Webster University. He now lives in Belleville, sings with the Black Tulip Chorale, and has recently begun learning to play the cello.
This week’s Platform celebrates the musical gifts within our own community, featuring performances by Ethical Society members in a morning full of creativity, connection, and heart.
Christine Politte recently made her debut in The Ethical Band but today is our first chance to hear Christine as a soloist! A dedicated member since 2023, she also serves as secretary of the Board of Trustees and is often one of the first friendly faces visitors meet at our coffee hour Visitors Connect table.
Tom Kneist, an accomplished classical pianist and longtime member, will perform a classical solo showcasing both technical brilliance and emotional depth. Tom and Donna will celebrate their 50th year of membership in 2026 — and his musicianship continues to be a meaningful gift to our community.
Heather and Sean O’Hara will close out the set with a pair of heartfelt, contemporary pieces. Expect a mix of playfulness and emotional resonance, brought to life by Heather’s expressive vocals and Sean’s instrumental talent. A member since 2017, Sean is a mainstay in The Ethical Band, often playing bass or trumpet and helping to lead our musical community.
Join us for this special morning of member-led music — a reminder of the talent, spirit, and connection we share.
