One of the first great kings of Persia used the media of his day to humiliate and subdue his rivals. Generations later, a brilliant general employed a very different, enlightened propaganda strategy to help conquer that king’s descendant and all of mighty Persia.

This dramatic tale of arrogance, magnanimity, betrayal, and retribution unfolds against a backdrop of art that is among the most beautiful ever created. In what promises to be a fascinating talk, member Terri Karp will explore this defining episode and draw connections to our culture’s obsession with image and power.
