Our Building’s History and Its Pathway Toward Sustainability & Accessibility
Details
Our Ethical Society building was completed in 1964 when the concepts of energy efficiency, sustainability and accessibility were far from the forefront within the world of design and construction. The oil crises of 1973 and 1979 became the catalyst for energy conservation and management. Later, the 1990 passage of the American with Disabilities Act became the stimulus for making facilities accessible.
Over the years, there have been a number of improvements made to the building and grounds, in an attempt to make our “home” a visible and functional expression of our values. Join member Dan Overmann to learn about past and future projects and initiatives related to the building that comprise our pathway to a more sustainable and accessible world for all.
Dan Overmann has been a member of the Ethical Society for 28 years and served on the Board as well as a number of committees and teams, including the Building and Grounds Committee. He is retiring from his architectural practice this year, after 50 years in business.
