On Reason’s Shoulders

Details

The Ethical and Humanist movements in the West are both the products of the global awareness of humane values and our own unique Western philosophical tradition. That tradition has privileged reason and intellect as superior to emotion since Plato. That carries risks for our movement when it creates barriers between us and those who are suffering. Learn the dignity-to-empathy connection and how to spot it in action in others and ourselves. If we stand on reason’s shoulders, we can see even further still.

Our Speaker: Joseph Farkas is a Chaplain and Celebrant with The Humanist Society and a Leader-in-Training with the AEU. He works at several Chicagoland area hospitals as well as the Chicago Ethical Humanist Circle as their full-time chaplain. When he isn't laboring in the movement, he enjoys relaxing with his wife and their dog, exercising, and tabletop gaming.

Music Guests: Home Remedy is the harmony of Cindy Minnis and Melinda Monroe. Altos, guitar, keyboard, percussion, joy! Original and borrowed music from the 60s, 70s, and beyond.
