Fiction is Not A Luxury

Details
Join the Ethical Society for a celebration of books and how all varieties of fiction are important to surviving and thriving in the modern world. Reading fiction serves a wide variety of purposes – including some that may surprise you. This goes for not just “serious” literary fiction, but popular genres like romance and mystery.
Kathy Schrenk has been a reader and writer of fiction since she was a young child. As an adult, she has worked mostly as a writer of non-fiction, but her love of fiction remains. She has been a member of the Ethical Society for nearly 10 years.
We’re excited to wrap up our summer music series with another special Member Music Day, celebrating the creativity, generosity, and spirit of Ethical Society members who bring our community to life through music.
Bradley Shutes will be making his Platform debut on guitar. Bradley has been a member since 2017 and is well known for his visual artistry and thoughtful, kind presence. Though he’s newer to guitar, he brings heart and creativity to all he does, and we’re thrilled to welcome him for his first solo musical performance on our stage.
Kyle and Lorelai Nienhaus will bring a bold and expressive musical moment to this week’s gathering. Kyle, a member since 2013, is an accomplished musician, a leader of The Ethical Band, and a thoughtful voice for Humanist philosophy and Ethical Culture. He’s a great person to talk with if you’re curious about the values that shape our work and community. His daughter Lorelai is often seen reading our Core Values on Sunday mornings and recently made her guitar debut with the Ethical Band during a memorable Weird Al-themed set. We’re excited to see this dynamic duo share the stage.
Jamie Frazier will perform on the organ for the first time at The Ethical Society. Jamie recently gave a meaningful and well-received Members Speak Platform, and she also leads our Ethical Ladies group — a lively circle of members who hike, brunch, volunteer, and explore St. Louis together. We’re delighted to experience this new side of her creativity!
Join us for a joyful and heartfelt morning as we close out our summer music celebration and honor talents within our community.
