What are the origins of ethics? “Thou shalt not…” is not an answer for Humanists. Lacking a sacred text or an omniscient deity that issues directives and commands, what, if any, are the origins of ethics? How might the origins of ethics be integral to the experience of the sacred? Please join us as we explore a Humanist understanding of the foundations of ethics and its relation to the sacred.
Brian Vandenberg is a longtime member of the Ethical Society. He is retired and, in his past life, was a professor of psychology and published on topics at the intersection of psychology, science, religion, and existential concerns.
