Humanism is (Almost) a Warrior Ethos
Details
Traditional religions often promise escape from suffering and death while warrior codes have long embraced facing those realities head-on. So where do Humanism and Ethical Culture stand? A bit of compare-and-contrast analysis lands us somewhere in the middle, and somewhere entirely our own. Come explore how the Humanist tradition and the warrior ethos agree, sharply disagree, and maybe even surprise you—all through the lens of effort, virtue, and human dignity.
Joseph Farkas has been a Humanist chaplain and celebrant for over a decade, completing his Master of Divinity through a Humanistic Buddhist university. Over that same time, he has served in the Army National Guard as a combat medic. Today, he is a certified Ethical Culture Leader-in-training in the Chicago area where he serves several hospitals as a board-certified chaplain. When not furthering his professional work, he enjoys exercise and spending time with his wife and their dog.
