Northern Thai feast in Elmhurst
Details
I tried Hug Esan a few weeks ago with another group and it was terrific. It's Northern Thai, not the commonest kind in NYC, so expect a lot of deep-fried, grilled, and meaty salad things, with an emphasis on pork and seafood. (I will order mild, but at this place that's still rather spicy!) Figure around $35-40/pp w/tax, tip, & fee.
Some likely dishes:
Chive pancake
Crispy pork belly
Nuer Yang - grilled marinated ribeye
Nam Khao Tod - crispy rice w/sour pork sausage, peanut, ginger, shallot
Pork Larb
Chicken Larb
Grilled chicken liver skewers
Pad See Ew - noodles w/shrimp & Chinese broccoli
Larb Pla - crispy whole tilapia w/sweet-sour sauce
Tum Thai Kai Kem - shredded papaya salad w/salted egg, peanuts, & dried shrimp
Deep fried soft shell crabs
