We will be hosting another round of talks around various Software testing approaches. This event will feature two talks.

Address: Simon Carmiggeltstraat 6-50, 1011 DJ Amsterdam ( A meetup-sign-up is required. Sign-in at the reception desk downstairs; reception will check your names, hand you a visitor's tag and a staff member will guide you to the 11th floor.).

Talk 1: Bigger Unit Tests Are Better

In this talk you will see how the general approach to unit testing might harm your flexibility. How a few simple changes in your approach will make your life better, coding faster, refactoring easier and your understanding of the business requirements stronger.

What to expect
You will learn new strategies that will help you make your unit tests bigger with:

  1. Guided clear code examples; we will look at why having many small test classes may harm you.
  2. A walk through to understand why making the tests bigger is such an important improvement and,
  3. Techniques and tricks that will help make your unit tests bigger.

Speaker
Peter Schuler has been passionate about coding since he was twelve years old. When coding he is a pragmatic, idealist who writes clean code with a fondness for SOLID, test-driven development, and clean architecture.He lives in the Netherlands and works for a large Dutch bank, the Rabobank

Talk 2: A Deep Dive into Mocking in tests
In this talk, Tim, a core maintainer of Mockito, will show his vision on how to effectively use mocks in tests.

What to expect
We will cover:

  1. Use cases for effectively using mocks in tests
  2. How to use Mockito and,
  3. Scenarios where alternatives might be more applicable.

Speaker
Tim van der Lippe is a Staff Development Tooling engineer at Adyen. He worked previously on Chrome Devtools at Google and is a core maintainer of Mockito. Tim helps maintain the build system at Adyen and develop tooling for engineers to be more productive.
