Community Conversation about Education

Details
May 1, 2014
Dear Friends,
I would like to invite you to the first in a series of community dialogues centered around “The Schools our Children Deserve.”
The purpose of this group is to create a community coalition that can articulate the needs of students, parents, teachers & administrators to our elected leaders in Salem.
We believe that the power of change lies within our community, and by uniting together around a shared vision, we will be able to create the schools our children deserve.
For this purpose, we would like to bring together a diverse cross section of stakeholders who can positively create a vision for the future.
The first event will be held on Thursday, May 22nd at Fairfield Elementary School from 6:30-8pm. Dinner, childcare, and translation will be available to all who attend. Based on the outcome of this community conversation we would like to continue to meet in the fall of 2014 around targeted topics.
Here are some examples of the topics we will be discussing:
• What does a well rounded education look like?
• What elective classes should be available to all students?
• What is the ideal learning environment?
• How do we prepare students for college or career readiness?
• What are your thoughts about education in Oregon?
Please RSVP to eileennittler@gmail.com, so we have an accurate food/childcare count.
