Paleo? Keto? A Detailed, Fair Look (video) - AND - *Easy* Burrito Potluck
Details
Two fun parts: 1) single-ingredient potluck to make burritos and 2) interesting and fair talk on keto and paleo diets from plant-based expert Brenda Davis, RD. What are these diets? What does the science say about their healthfulness? Could a vegan diet be more paleo than a paleo diet?
TALK THOUGHTS
The one hour talk from Brenda is fast-paced and goes beyond the surface information we typically hear about these diets in the media. I also like that Brenda is fair in her review, pointing out positives when they exist.
Even if you are already 100% convinced that keto and paleo are not the way to go, you might appreciate the arguments/data that you can get from Brenda's talk. Having this info in your back pocket can be helpful when talking to friends and family.
I have several of Brenda's books, which serve as great references for plant based eaters who are interested in meeting specific government nutrient recommendations (recommended daily allowances). I'll put the books out for you to look at.
BURRITO POTLUCK
We used to do this kind of potluck all the time. In this case, I'll supply various types of tortillas. All you have to do is bring one or two ingredients to put in the burrito. Each person will assemble their own perfect dish. It's easy and seems to work out beautifully every time.
Ideas on what you could bring:
> beans/lentils
> grains: rice, quinoa, etc, etc, etc
> other big starches: cooked, chopped potatoes (regular or sweet), corn
> veggies: lettuce, shredded carrots, chopped tomatoes, cooked mushrooms, cilantro, olives, etc.
> sauces: salsa, vegan cheese sauce or shreds, vegan sour cream
> misc: baked sliced or diced tofu, marinated soy curls (ready to eat), sunflower seeds
CAKE
No, I'm not baking a cake. Just letting you know that my Great Dane, Cake, will be supervising burrito making and generally providing entertainment throughout the event.
MY ADDRESS and OTHER IMPORTANT INFO
I'll be sending out an email with my home address and other important information about the event which is not included in this post. It is your responsibility to look for that email and let me know if you do not get it. Thank you!
KEEPING IT SAFE
Covid community spread is low right now. So, I feel fine about having an indoor event. However, in order to respectful of fellow attendees, please attend only if you have had at least the basic covid shots and also change your RSVP if you feel sick when the event rolls around.
