Exphrastic Poetry Workshop: Writing About Art
Ekphrastic poetry is a form of writing that describes, discusses, or is inspired by a work of visual art. The term originates from the Greek word "ekphrasis," meaning a vivid description. Today, poets who practice ekphrasis don’t merely describe art but react to, debate, or challenge it, or use art as a springboard to explore memory, emotions, ideas, and social/political events.
Participants in this workshop will write poetry about the Waterscape Paintings currently on display at the Grove Gallery in Evanston, IL. The workshop will be led by Virginia Bell, PhD, an adjunct Professor at Loyola University Chicago & DePaul University and co/editor of the Rhino Poetry Journal.
