Morning Tea Walk

Tea Stories and a Tea House Visit – at Kyoto Mandaracha.

Join a gentle morning walk through Kyoto discovering the history and spirit of tea.

We will begin along the Kamogawa River near Kiyomizu Gojo, where we will hear stories about Baisao, the wandering tea monk who sold tea along Kyoto’s rivers in the 18th century.

From there we will walk north and stop at Kennin-ji, one of Kyoto’s oldest Zen temples, where we will share stories about Eisai, the monk who introduced tea to Japan and wrote Kissa Yōjōki.

Our walk will end at Mandaracha tea house, where we will sit down together and enjoy a cup of tea while reflecting on the stories and atmosphere of Kyoto.

This experience is inspired by the idea of walking through Kyoto as people might have done in the past — slowly, attentively, and appreciating tea through places, stories, and taste.
