Details

This run is practice for a full marathon that will be posted at a future date.

Waitlisted with vetting and easy-to-answer questions.

There is a departure time of 7:00 am sharp, so please arrive early to organize yourself.

The run will be rescheduled if there is heavy rain the day/night before or the day of.

Make sure you have messages turned on for administrators. I will DM participants with the location once they are moved to the going list. In addition, I will provide participants with a copy of the route when they arrive at the trailhead.

This event is based on an official marathon held annually in the Highlands. The distance is slightly more than the halfway point, and it must be completed in under 5 hours. The elevation gain is 4800 feet and includes the No Name Mountain on the yellow trail, Breakneck Ridge, Bull Hill, the back section of Breakneck Ridge, and the nickel and dime climbs along the Breakneck Ridge Trail. The route is rough and dangerous, with steep descents that contain rolling rocks. Then there are the stub your toe obstacle courses (rock outcroppings) scattered throughout the track, and mud patches that will send you on your keister. You have to run this event to make the cutoff. I tried doing fast hiking for this event, 2.65 mph. All things considered, this is a fast pace for the area. However, I came in 30 minutes over the hard cut. I made several subsequent practice runs and came in 15 minutes under. That is why I have labeled this a run, because you cannot make the cut by walking.

There is an easy-to-find location at 7.3 miles into the run for a water drop. If you need to travel a considerable distance, I can make the water drop ahead of time. I will provide this location once you are on the going list.

Summary:
14.5 miles
4,800 feet of elevation
Out and back figure eight
Hard cut at 5 hours
Difficult dangerous terrain
Trail run or 3 plus mph moving speed
There are no stops on this event, or you catch up
Faster runners/hikers do not have to wait for me, as I am not a fast runner
