Presidential Traverse - DAY hike, 20+ Miles, ~9K elevation gain

Details

The Presidential Traverse is a strenuous hike covering over 20 miles of challenging, rocky terrain gaining about 9,000 feet of elevation over the Presidential Range in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This beautiful traverse crosses several 4,000-foot peaks named after U.S. Presidents with much of the hike spent above tree line. Reschedule for heavy rain. Please turn ON your meetup message.

We will TRY to keep hike together in modest moving speed ~2.2 mph (avg up/down depends on the group), but no one has to wait for slower hiker.

You are fully responsible for your own safety. The range is known for harsh and unpredictable weather with extremely high winds. You should be PREPARED for sudden weather change (poor visibility, high wind, rainstorm...COLD). You should be FIT and experienced to be on your own, including trail navigation. No one would have to wait for slower hiker.

We will do a one-day traverse from north to south starting at the Appalachia trailhead and taking the Valley Way Trail to the ridge near Madison Spring Hut

The 10 peaks:

  1. Mt. Madison
  2. Mt. Adams
  3. Mt. Jefferson
  4. Mt. Clay
  5. Mt. Washington
  6. Mt. Monroe
  7. Mt. Franklin
  8. Mt. Eisenhower
  9. Mt. Pierce
  10. Mt. Jackson

Note: Clay, Franklin and Jackson are optional, and they can be skipped.
