What can NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope actually see, and how do its instruments turn incoming light into discoveries? You're in for a deep dive inside Roman’s Wide Field Instrument and Coronagraph Instrument.
We’ll explore the 300-megapixel Wide Field Instrument, or WFI, including its 18 infrared detectors, imaging filters, prism and grism spectroscopy, and enormous field of view.
We’ll also look at the Coronagraph Instrument, a technology demonstration designed to suppress overwhelming starlight so astronomers can directly study faint exoplanets and surrounding disks. Roman’s WFI combines Hubble-like angular resolution with a dramatically larger view of the sky, giving astronomers a powerful new tool for studying dark energy, galaxies, gravitational microlensing and exoplanets.
