Green Smoothies

Valentine's Day is hard; many people hit the ground running, so-to-speak, on January 1st, then Valentine's comes around and they have started to slack off on their New Year's resolutions. Chocolate, candy, champagne, and filet minion with butter poached lobster, can be real setbacks for any LIFESTYLE CHANGE (let's not call it a diet, because we want to make changes that will last a lifetime, with a little bit of delightful deviation here and there!).
Personally, I know that one great way to get back on track is to start the day with a green smoothie. I know, you've seen people drinking them and frankly, they look gross. People ask me all of the time, "WHAT ARE YOU DRINKING?!" when I walk up with a quart-sized mason jar of green-brown sludge. But, it doesn't have to be that way-smoothies can taste great! You can make a tasty and healthy green smoothie that will boost your fruit and veggie intake, get your whole system moving, help you lose weight and, I know this sounds like a terrible cliché, but . . . feel great too. I'll probably tell you a little about my own story and how green smoothies have helped to change how I feel on a day-to-day basis.
We will make several smoothies that everyone will have the opportunity to taste. I will provide recipes, and hopefully, inspiration so you can make green smoothies at home. All of the ingredients will be organic, unless there isn't an organic option.
We'll talk about:
• Benefits and drawbacks of different greens
• Combinations to avoid
• Rotating Greens
• Oxalates
• Quality protein powders and whether you need one of not
• Add-ins such as, chia, flax, hemp, acai, etc.
• Appropriate smoothies for people with diabetes
• Blenders and other tools
• Any burning questions you may have!
The meetup will be held on South Avenue.
