Exeter Board Gamers plays Blood on the Clocktower (Online)

Details

This is our third online play of Blood on the Clocktower (BOTC). Most players are still very new to the game and these games are aimed at beginners/learners so we can advance as a group together.

INSTRUCTIONS - IMPORTANT!
If you are playing with us for the first time - please send me a message via meetup and I will send you the link for the game about 15-20 mins before we are due to start on the evening so that you have time to log on and get your camera and mic working within the BOTC official web app.

You will need to register for a free account here https://bloodontheclocktower.com/account/login - login to the account and then click on the link you will be sent from me to join the game.

Once you join the game - you will need to "Take a seat" - you will see a circle of seats - click on the box below one of the circles eg "Seat 4" - there will be an option to "Claim Seat" and change it to be your name.
Press Q - this will open the settings menu. Select the "Chat" tab - and you will see a purple bar at the top of the chat tab options that says "Set Up Microphone and Camera" - click that and hopefully that should automatically set everything up for you. At some point your browser will ask you to allow notifications - click "always allow" as the game will want to send you all sorts of notifications during the game eg when someone wants to start a private chat with you or the Storyteller is sending you information during the night phase or asking you to make choices during the night phase.

Please note we have a WhatsApp Group for discussing the game, arranging next sessions etc - after you have attended a game you will be invited to the WhatsApp group so you can have your say in when the sessions are held, chat about BOTC and also help with getting the official app set up etc. I send the game link out via the WhatsApp group unless we have a brand new player - in which case they will receive it via a message on Meetup.

EVENT DESCRIPTION
After playing a few games now on Sundays afternoons - we've decided to give playing Blood on the Clocktower (BOTC) a go online - from the comfort of your own home. BOTC is the next evolution of social deduction games such as Mafia, Werewolf/One Night Ultimate Werewolf etc but simply better in every way,

No previous experience is required - the rules will be explained to everyone at the start. Please join ideally 10 mins or so early in order to trouble shoot any issues with getting your mic & camera working. Camera is not essential to play but is encouraged but we understand not everyone is comfortable having their webcam on.

The link to join the game will not be posted publicly so please either contact me and ask to be added to the BOTC WhatsApp group as the link to join the game will be posted there - or make sure that your settings on meetup allow me to send you a private message and I will send you the game link that way.

We will play some beginner friendly scripts to begin with but the aim is to play regularly and build up peoples confidence to play more advanced scripts with more complex characters.

The aim is to play in a fun and relaxed atmosphere not taking the game too seriously or competitively. The aim is to just have fun with an amazing social deduction game in a beginners friendly environment, learning together to move to more complex scripts as people become accustomed to the rules and characters within the game.

We have players with very varied levels of experience of the game - but the majority at the moment are new to BOTC so its a good time to join and learn the game along with everyone else.

For some links about the game - Id suggest watching some of the official Pandemonium Institute games on Youtube - which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/@BloodontheClocktower - particularly recommend watching games of Trouble Brewing, Bad Moon Rising and Sects & Violets which are the 3 scripts that come with the physical copy of the game.

Other good resources including the Wiki for the game: https://wiki.bloodontheclocktower.com/Main_Page - you can find all of the game rules here together with information about every character that can feature in a game along with tips on how to play it. Its a very useful resource.

There are a ton of other Youtube channels with excellent BOTC content out there - happy to make recommendations if anyone wants them- but strongly suggest watching at least a playthrough of Trouble Brewing to understand some of the basic mechanics of the game.

We need a minimum of 5 players plus myself (Neil) as the storyteller to play. An ideal game is 9 to 12 players - but it is possible (although not recommended) to have upto 20 players!

We look forward to welcoming you to our little BOTC online community!
