What we’re about
Welcome to the Exeter Film Club! An inclusive and friendly club that meets regularly to watch and discuss films, usually at the Picturehouse or Phoenix.
Want to meet new people? New to the area? Or find that your friends don’t share your film interests?! All are welcome - join us today and let's watch some amazing movies together!
The host posts the film, cinema, and time, everyone books their own ticket, and we meet in the cinema’s cafe/bar before the film. This allows the host to welcome any new people, and for everyone to grab a drink to take into the cinema if they wish. Then we join up for a longer chat afterwards, talk about the film, share other film recommendations, and see where the conversation leads us.

Steve @ The Phoenix
Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre, Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre, Gandy Street, Exeter, EX4 3LS, Exeter, GBFrom the trailer it looks like this will be quite a powerful film, with Cillian Murphy on top form. It starts at 20:00 and I'll be in the cafe from 19:30 wearing a red cap to help you recognise me. I'll be sticking around afterwards for anyone who wants to get another drink and share our thoughts, and maybe decompress a bit!
From the Phoenix website:
Cillian Murphy plays Steve, a dedicated but troubled headteacher at a reform school for boys. Set within one frenetic day we follow Steve as he tries to protect the school, get through to self-destructive student all whilst hanging on by a thread himself.
With a powerful supporting cast, including Little Simz, who also wrote a track for this film, and Emily Watson, this collage of a film paints a portrait of violence and fragility in a 90s reform school where the boys, teachers and school itself are all at risk
For tickets see the Phoenix website, seating is unreserved.

Picturehouse - Exeter, 51 Bartholomew Street West, Exeter, GBAnother hard-hitting UK film - I promise something lighter next time! - from Harris Dickinson, who you might know from Triangle of Sadness and Babygirl. It starts at 13:45 and I'll be in the cafe from 13:15 wearing a red cap to help you recognise me. I'll be sticking around afterwards for anyone who wants to get a cuppa and share our thoughts.
From the Picturehouse website:
Urchin is the stunning directorial debut from Harris Dickinson, powered by an outstanding, award-winning performance from Frank Dillane.
Mike (Dillane), a rough sleeper on the streets of London, is trapped in a cycle of self-destruction as he attempts to turn his life around. Moving between short-term jobs and small-time hustles, he must balance the hopeful rush of a fresh start with a past that is holding him back.
By turns exhilarating and poetic, Urchin is a bold, vibrant and utterly unmissable portrait of life on the margins.
For tickets see the Picturehouse website; I'm in seat F7 but sit wherever you wish.
