Sep 4-Sep 8 2026 Kayaking in the Canadian side of the San Juan Islands?
Details
This will be our fifth foray doing 4+ day kayak camping trips in or near the San Juan islands. The group will come together and decide the exact route, but plan to leave before noon on Friday September 4, 2026, and return late on September 8.
All of the pictures are from the 2025 trip.
The details:
- Only people we know well. This has the potential to be a serious adventure if anything was to go wrong, so this isn't the right adventure for people we haven't met and adventured with. Please adventure with us on 'routine' trips before expecting to join trip.
- Each time we do this, we leave Portland the day before and spend the night close to the start point so we are ready to go the next morning.
- Be prepared to walk away from the trip (and any rental deposit) if the weather is not good.
- The focus on kayak trips is eating well. It is community cooking.
- There is increasing interest in kayaking in Canada so have a passport if that interests you.
- We are not professionals so don't expect that from us, but at the same time each year we take some people with limited experience.
Be prepared to walk away and forfeit your rental deposit (if you are renting) if the weather isn't cooperating. Only RSVP if you have done both 'routine' and serious adventure trips with us and we know you well.
All in all this is a sweet deal, on our 2023 trip we ran into an REI group. Those folks paid $1100 for a three day trip and I guarantee they didn't have half the fun we did.
Prior to going we will have a mandatory self rescue practice day and several smaller kayak adventures before the big day.
Rules and expectations you should know:
- What are we here for?
- Events Refund Policy
- RSVP Courtesy - by attending a day hike you certify you agree with it

- Most events are organized via Facebook Messenger. We don't care if you use Facebook but for most trips (including all overnight trips) you need Messenger to participate. If there is a Messenger chat for a trip, being added to the Messenger chat is the actual go list.
- Many of our trips use a waitlist. Please add yourself to it. Here are the best way to get to the go list!
