In the Netherlands, St. Matthew's Passion is the favorite composition of the Passion period and is anchored in our culture. The Bach Choir & Orchestra of the Netherlands is able to convey the symbolism, emotion and comfort to you as a listener like no other.
Johann Sebastian Bach devised a unique arrangement for his magnus opus: two choirs and two orchestras. The composition tells the chronological passion story of Christ in which symbolism plays a major role. Bach uses all kinds of musical means to get rich effects. He wrote specific roles for both instruments and soloists. The narrator: the evangelist, takes you through the story. He is alternated by the chorus, intimate on the one hand and overwhelming on the other. Each soloist has its own emotional dimension, such as love, sorrow, consolation, and contemplation.
The musicians of The Bach Orchestra play authentic instruments from Bach’s time, and The Bach Choir is praised for its dynamic and expressive sound.
