On Saturdays, the Thyssen is open until 11.00 pm, with free entry, and there are few experiences in Madrid that compare to strolling through its galleries at night, at a leisurely pace, without the hustle and bustle of the day.

Carmen Laffón (Seville, 1934–2021) was the second woman to be admitted to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and spent sixty years observing the world with a patience and sensitivity rarely seen. Baskets, cupboards, cots, the salt flats of Sanlúcar, the Doñana Nature Reserve. Everyday objects which, under her gaze, become something that goes far beyond what they represent. 77 works: oil paintings, charcoal drawings and sculptures in nine sections spanning her entire career. An intimate, poetic and moving exhibition.
