In this talk Martyn will share his experiences of building a new UX team at Virgin Atlantic and how he is exploring new ways to demonstrate ROI. He will share methods for describing UX’s commercial relevance, to stakeholders and ways in which you can create beautiful experiences, that make the business folks smile.

#Martyn is the Head of User Experience at Virgin Atlantic. Prior to going client side, he worked with some of the world’s top brands including BBC, Penguin, Diageo, Sony and Ikea. He is a design leader with a background in building teams. Martyn would redesign the whole internet given half the chance.

> Abstract Talk #2: Embedding experimentation into the design process

The benefits to the customer, the business and the team involved are huge and in this talk I’ll be sharing examples and discussing the reasons why I’m so passionate about this approach. I’m not going to pretend that it’s all easy though so will also be discussing some of the challenges and misconceptions that you’ll need to overcome.

Some of the benefits include:

  1. Helping you find the most effective solution for your users more quickly
  2. Learning faster, as there’s nothing more important for the team than finding out if it works or not as soon as possible
  3. Being more adventurous in your ideas rather than just playing it safe. Finding new ways of solving old problems. This is how you innovate the customer experience.
  4. Delivering an even more user centric experience with personalisation rather than treating everyone the same.
  5. Finally measuring the impact of your UX work. When you get great results and can calculate the ROI it’s so much easier to grow the team and raise the profile of UX in your organisation.

> Abstract Talk #3: How to measure UX and business goals using a North Star KPI

As a team / company grows, it gets more and more difficult to align everyone to the same goal and reaching it. A perfect tool to solve this problem is to use a North Star KPI. At TestingTime we grew beyond 20 people and faced these exact problems. Everyone worked on different projects and suddenly the common goal was lost. We urgently needed a tool to realign everyone and measure our progress. Our North Star KPI dashboard revolves a lot around measuring the User Experience. Reto will talk about the challenges TestinTime faced and how their North Star KPI helped to realign the team on the same goal and improve the User Experience of the service.

# Test early and often is Reto’s mantra for good Interaction Design. Reto started TestingTime at the beginning of 2013. As CEO, Reto leads the vision and mission of the startup. Prior to TestingTime, Reto worked as Interaction Designer and Usability Consultant with his own 58rocks GmbH. At doodle.com he gained international startup experience as VP Product Management. He owns a MAS in Interaction Design and a BS in Computer Science.
