Talk 1: Visual Architecture: Code-Driven Diagramming
Description: Architecture diagrams are crucial for understanding complex systems and ensuring maintainability throughout a project’s lifecycle. However, traditional diagrams often become obsolete as systems evolve due to the difficulty of updating them or lack of awareness about their existence.
Code-driven diagrams address these challenges by tying diagrams closely to the project code, enabling easy updates as part of the development workflow. Tools like Structurizr, LikeC4, PlantUML, and Mermaid facilitate this approach, allowing diagrams to be version-controlled alongside code. C4 architecture diagrams, in particular, offer a hierarchical view, from high-level system contexts to detailed code views, enabling better navigation and understanding. This session concludes with examples of automatically generated, up-to-date diagrams.
