What we’re about
Hello and welcome!
Are you living in or traveling through Kyushu? Are you looking for a way to dive deeper than the typical tourist spots and connect with the authentic heart of Japan? This group is for you!
This is a community for international friends and locals to meet, share stories, and experience the rich culture of rural Japan together. Our activities are centered around the quiet, mindful pleasures of Japanese culture, hosted in a beautiful, private historic home (kominka) in Nagayu Onsen, a famous hot spring town in Takeda City, Oita.
### -- What We Do: Our Two Signature Events --
We host two main types of recurring events, each offering a unique way to enjoy our space:
1. The Authentic Sencha Experience A hands-on, interactive workshop where you'll dive deep into the world of Japanese brewed tea. In this session, you will:
- Taste exquisite Japanese tea made with legendary local spring water.
- Learn the art of preparing Sencha yourself in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
- Discover the history and art connected to our region, inspired by the 19th-century scholar-artist Tanomura Chikuden.
2. Sunday Chadoku: The Silent Tea & Reading Hour A peaceful weekly gathering for book lovers. Bring your own book and join fellow readers for an hour of uninterrupted, silent reading. Accompanied by a freshly brewed cup of seasonal Japanese tea, it’s a simple, restorative way to begin your Sunday in quiet contemplation and community.
In the future, we also plan to explore local craft shops, visit hidden shrines and nature spots, and enjoy other cultural activities together!

### -- Who Should Join? --
- Expats and residents living in Oita, Kumamoto, Fukuoka, and beyond.
- Travelers seeking a unique, off-the-beaten-path cultural experience.
- Japanese locals who want to practice Japanese, share their culture, and make friends from around the world.
- Anyone with a love for Japanese tea, art, history, books, and beautiful, quiet places.
### -- A Special Note for Our First Members --
We are currently in the preparation phase of our project! This means our first few events (for both the Sencha Experience and Chadoku) will be completely FREE trial sessions. We are looking for friendly members to join us, enjoy the experience, and share their valuable feedback to help us create something truly special.
Come share a cup of tea with us. We can't wait to meet you!

### What this event is about
Hello Tea Lovers!
This time, we're taking a special day trip outside of Oita to Nara Prefecture's famous tea region: Tsukigase!
Tsukigase is well-known for its stunningly beautiful valley, but it is also the home of high-quality "Yamato-cha" (Yamato Tea). On this day, we will first join a local event where area tea farmers gather, and then we will visit two of the most talked-about tea spots in the Tsukigase area.
It will be a day filled with tea: from local history and a "Tocha" (tea tasting/guessing game) to a sophisticated tea shop and a hands-on hojicha (roasted green tea) roasting experience.***
### Schedule (Our Plan)
0. Meet up at Kintetsu Nara Station
1. 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM: Tsukigase Tea Event at Tawara Yamasato Ichiba First, we'll enjoy a local event attended by Tsukigase's tea farmers. According to the info, we can experience tea on a "mobile tatami," try "Tocha" (a game of guessing tea types), and meet tea instructors. (Reference: https://www.tukicha.com/blog/?p=3947)
3. 12:00 PM - 13:00 PM: Tsukigase "TEATATSUMI" https://coubic.com/teatatsumi Our final stop will be at "Tatsumi," where we can experience roasting our own hojicha (roasted green tea). We'll relax with the wonderful aroma of freshly roasted tea to finish our tour.
3. 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM: Inokura Farm "Shop Suisui" https://www.inokura.co.jp/shop/ In the afternoon, we will visit the direct-managed shop of the award-winning Inokura Farm. This is one of their rare Sunday openings (opens at 1:30 PM)! We can enjoy top-quality Yamato-cha in a beautifully designed, modern space.
