What to expect and FAQ
Do we have reserved tables?
We have exactly enough tables for one table/ team, but they are not assigned. First come, first pick of a table. There will be 50 teams at this event!
Does my team need to all arrive together?
No. The first person to arrive from your team will need to give us the team name and the name of the person who registered your team to claim your table, everyone after that person needs to just share what team you’re with.
Can we get bonus points?
No. At the tournament of champions it’s straight quizzing.
- No birthday points (But we wish you luck and a really fun time if it is your birthday!)
- We also don’t accept 30 point chips, and we don’t give points for social media or filling out surveys.
Will the questions/format be different from regular trivia?
The format will be mostly the same with themed rounds.
Differences:
- There may be an audio round. There may be a picture round. There may be a hidden theme.
- The improbable question will be a large collection of somethings that everyone gets to look at. Closest guess gets points OR a prize - their choice.
- We have a projector that will have the questions up on the screen as we read them.
- Additionally, there will be a deadline for all answers to be turned in. After the second read-through of question we will start a countdown clock.
- We will not read off scores, but they will be visible on our website in real-time via a QR code at each table.
I’m concerned about cheaters.
Despite the high probability that most tournament champions play with honor, for everyone’s peace of mind:
- We require all phones and smart watches to be in buckets in the middle of each table
- If anyone needs to use their device mid-round, they must leave the room and can’t return until that round is over.
- Bathroom visits also require that the person wait until the round is over to re-join their team.
- We will have proctors walking around between tables throughout the rounds.
Will there be food and/or drink available?
Yes, There will be a CASH ONLY bar and a cash only selection of food available.
- Hot Dogs
- Hamburgers
- Chili
- Assorted Bags of Chips
- Grilled Vegetable Wrap, Each with Arugula, Hummus Spread, Whipped Herb Goat Cheese
- Assorted Cookies & Brownies
- Assorted Sodas Regular and Diet Pepsi Brand Soft Drinks, Iced Teas and Bottled Water
****************************
Phone use will be prohibited during the question and answering period for any purpose. If you are on-call and must pick up your phone during a round you will have to leave the room immediately and will not be allowed back in until the round is over.
Any teams observed by staff using a phone, smart watch, or other telecommunication device while at their table during the will be disqualified.
No shouting.
Maximum team size is 8 people.
Disputes must be made in a timely manner, as soon as practicable. We will review any disputes and make a final decision that cannot be appealed.
Game format will be the same as regular weekly games: 6 rounds of 5 questions plus an impossible question and a final wager question.
Any ties will be broken with a predetermined impossible question at the end of the game.
If you leave the room during the question and answer period you are not allowed back in until the end of the round. There will be time between rounds for food, drink and bathroom use.
