Some old shops may seem easy to pass by.

They’re not flashy,
and they’re not places tourists usually stop for photos.
Yet each one carries stories from another time.

Before supermarkets,
Where people bought their everyday cooking ingredients?
oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, eggs.
Simple essentials, made by local factories
that have been part of our kitchens for decades.
Their products are still here today, quietly lining the shelves.

Do you know what a traditional wooden plaque is?
In temples, you may notice them when you look up.
In the past, each plaque was carved by hand.
Today, these hand-carved plaques are becoming rare.
The hands of the carving master, however, have not grown old.
He is nearing retirement, with no successor to carry on the craft.
This skill is slowly disappearing.

That’s why we bring people into the shop.
Even if plaques become fewer,
the memories we share with the master continue to grow.
We turn fading skills into shared memories.
Join us as we create memories with Taichung’s old shops.
