Uvas Canyon Hike

Details

Tucked into the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Uvas Canyon County Park offers one of the Bay Area’s most enchanting hikes. This lush canyon trail is a nature lover’s dream, winding through a shaded forest filled with the sound of cascading waterfalls, mossy rocks, and towering trees. The Uvas Canyon Loop combines several connected trails — including the Waterfall Loop, Contour Trail, and the scenic climb to Nibbs Knob — creating a moderate 5.5 to 6.5 mile loop with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain.

The route is perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape and a bit of a workout, all while being surrounded by the tranquil beauty of nature.

Trail Highlights:

  • Multiple Waterfalls: Basin Falls, Black Rock Falls, and Upper Falls greet you early on.
  • Serene Forest Paths: Shaded by sycamores, bay laurels, and redwoods.
  • Panoramic Views: Nibbs Knob offers sweeping vistas of the South Bay, perfect for a snack break and some great photos.

Good to Know:

  • Dogs are welcome (on leash).
  • A day-use reservation is required ($6 per car) — I got 6 passes and it can accommodate at least 24 people (4 people per car). Since parking is limited, these passes can only be used to enter the park between 10AM - 11AM. Once parked no restriction on duration.

Whether you're looking to unwind to the sound of running water or break a sweat on forested switchbacks, Uvas Canyon delivers a perfect mix of calm and challenge.

Common Start Point: Let's meet here at 9AM to carpool and reach to the Uvas Canyon park by 10AM.
