Nature Walk along the Yarra Trail & Coffee/Lunch @ Abbotsford Convent Bakery

Details

Join me for a nature walk along the Yarra Trail from the historic Abbotsford Convent to Kane's Bridge and back, followed by coffee and lunch at the Convent Bakery.

This inner-city walk and environment is abundant with native wildlife and vegetation, open woodlands and beautiful river red gums, and there are several cultural and historical sites along the way to observe and learn about.

We will begin this outdoor adventure walking along the beautiful Yarra River to Dight Falls, a natural cascade in the river converted into a weir in the 1840s as a power source for a flour mill. The path then winds through the native Koori Gardens before arriving at the junction where the Merri Creek flows into the Yarra River.

From there we will make our way to Deep Rock Historical Swimming Hole where there are often water loving dogs swimming in the river. Further upstream we can stop to enjoy the river views at the Galatea Lookout and then walk across the heritage listed Kane's Bridge.

On our way back to the Abbotsford Convent we will take the path beside the Collingwood Children's Farm, past the paddocks of sheep and horses, before strolling through the gorgeous gardens surrounding the Abbotsford Convent's 11 historical buildings.

We will finish up at the Convent Bakery for a coffee, lunch and conversation together.

This is an easy walk and the distance all up will be 7km and take us around 1hr 45mins. We will walk at a moderate pace with stops along the way to enjoy the scenery and points of interest.
