Nature Walk along the Maribyrnong River - Canning to Afton Conservation Reserve

Join me for a walk to explore the beautiful Maribyrnong River and surrounding wetlands, from Canning Reserve to Afton St Conservation Reserve.
The trail winds along the river through wetlands rich with native flora and fauna, mostly River Red Gums and Silver Wattles, and birdlife including the Pacific Black Duck, Dusky Moorhen, and the little Australasian Darter. The path has some steep sections that lead to stunning views of the river and city skyline, and we can stop and take rest breaks as needed, as we chat and make new friends along the way.

The walking distance will be around 8km and take us approx 2 hours, we will walk at a moderate pace with stops along the way to enjoy the environment. This walk is described as moderate with gravel paths and some steep sections.

Agenda
We will meet at Canning Reserve at 2pm near the rotunda
At 2.15pm we will head off, reaching Afton Reserve by 3.30pm
We will stop at the picnic area on our return for a break and something to eat, bring snacks with you as there is nowhere to buy food along the walk.

If you are travelling by Public Transport, catch the train to Footscray Station, then take bus 406 towards Keilor East, from Bay 15 on Irving St. The bus leaves every 20 minutes and takes around 30 mins to Canning Reserve. The bus stops at Canning Reserve/ Canning Street (Avondale Heights).
If you are driving there is free car parking available in Canning Reserve with plenty of space.
