Nature Walk along Hobsons Bay & Birdwatching in Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve

Details
Join me for an afternoon nature walk along the Hobsons Bay trail and birdwatching at the Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve. The Hobsons Bay Trail features stretches of sandy beach, wetlands and birdlife along the shore and amongst the mangroves, mudflats and saltmarshes.
We will begin this outdoor adventure walking through the local streets and then beside the shoreline of Williamstown Beach. Along the way we can enjoy conversation and make new friends as we look out for sea and shorebirds such as pelicans, silver gulls, pacific gulls and terns. When we reach the Jawbone Marine Sanctuary we will walk out along the boardwalk to explore the intertidal zone. The Jawbone Marine Sanctuary protects a diverse range of coastal and marine life.
From there the path winds through the Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve where there are a series of lakes with boardwalks, paths, bird hides and a mangrove conservation area. We can explore the wetland environment and look out for black swans, ducks, grebes, cormorants and herons hunting for food and swimming. We will take a break to have a snack and a drink in the picnic area.
On our way back to Williamstown Beach Station we will stroll through the Williamstown Botanical gardens to take in the beauty of the rare trees, formal palm avenue and the ornamental pond.
This is an easy walk and the distance will be about 7km all up. It will take us around 2 hours walking at an easy to moderate pace with stops along the way to observe and photograph the birdlife.
