Join me for a stroll through The Briars Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoy the unique flora and fauna of the Mornington Peninsula. The sanctuary is an integral part of the much loved Briars heritage estate and provides a haven for many native species.

Together we can enjoy conversation and make new friends as we follow the boardwalk to the bird hides nestled in the wetlands. There will be time to learn about the diverse waterbirds from the visual displays and look out for birds swimming, nesting and flying. We'll continue on the path through the paperbark swamp and over the creek that flows into the estuary and out to Port Phillip Bay. When we arrive at the Wetland Lookout we can take time to enjoy the panoramic views of the wetlands and have fun taking photographs.

We'll return along the scenic Woodland Walk, winding our way through bushland and grassland, keeping our eyes out for echidnas, emus, kangaroos, wallabies and an array of birds.
After our walk we'll have time to explore the visitor's centre. Bring along your favourite drinks and snacks so we can relax and socialise together in the picnic area.

This is a family friendly event. Pets are not allowed in the sanctuary.

Agenda
I will meet you at 10am out the front of The Briars Visitor’s Centre located 1.5km from the Nepean Highway turn off.

We'll set off at 10.15am for the Wildlife Sanctuary and follow the boardwalk to the bird hides to see the water birds in their natural habitat. From there we'll walk through the bushland up to the Wetland Lookout to take in the expansive views out across the Briars.

We'll then loop back via the Woodland Walk, go through the hills and grasslands and cross the creek to return to the visitor's centre. We can then take time to explore the interpretive displays explaining the ecology of the area and the Briars historical and cultural value.

After that we'll have time to relax and chat and enjoy our picnic drinks and snacks we have brought along.

This is an easy to moderate walk along boardwalks and paths with occasional steps and uphill sections. The walking distance is about 4km all up and will take us around 1 hour 30 minutes.
