Even if you did it last year, come on down as this is a different part of Pilsen and new murals we have not seen before! We are doing this with our sister group, 1001 Things to See in Chicago Before You Die so it is a multi meetup event!
Luckily I was able to score another exclusive & private walking tour for our group! Come out and join us for a lovely fall walk through one of the south side's fun and lively neighborhoods. You will not be disappointed with Luis' knowledge of the area and its history! Everyone always enjoys this tour and the great meal afterwards!
EVERYONE PAYS $20 CASH UPFRONT TO ME AT THE START OF THE TOUR. I THEN GIVE IT TO LUIS. CASH ONLY! ( I can accept PayPal, Venmo & Zelle if necessary but cash is preferred)

NEW ROUTE & NEW MEET LOCATION! The tour weaves the history of Pilsen with vibrant large-scale murals and lived personal experiences. We are seeing all new murals this year!
The tour is approx. 2 miles of walking outside so wear good walking shoes and proper outdoor clothing for the Chicago fall weather. Bring water too!
Please keep in mind that the tour Ends where we start at Pilsen Arts & Community House 1637 W 18th St, Chicago, and we will grab lunch about 1 block away so you can park near where the walk starts.
After the walking tour, some of us will get lunch at nearby Los Comales. All are welcome to join. “Los Comales is proud to be a fixture of the Chicagoland area for 50 years serving up delicious dishes and contributing to the vibrant culture of the neighborhood. Just minutes from downtown Chicago, come explore some of the most vibrant walls in the city. PIlsen Public Art Tours was created by two community-invested art educators. With a natural love for the arts and two decades of combined organizing and art engagement practice, PPAT is distinctly positioned to offer an in-depth educational experience. Their walking tours connect participants to the themes, history, and messages of the local public art.
Rich in Latino culture, Pilsen is a neighborhood that overflows with music, art, culinary tradition, and nightlife. It’s home to award-winning restaurants, iconic music venues, and sensational murals as far as the eye can see. Maybe that’s why it was named one of the “12 Coolest Neighborhoods Around the World” by Forbes.
In the late 19th century Pilsen was inhabited by Czech immigrants who named the district after Pilsen, the fourth largest city in Czechia. The population also included in smaller numbers other ethnic groups from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Although there was an increasing Mexican American presence in the late 1950s, it was not until 1962-63 when there was a great spurt in the numbers of Mexican Americans in Pilsen due to the destruction of the neighborhood west of Halsted to create room for the construction of UIC. Latinos became the majority in 1970 when they surpassed the Slavic population. The neighborhood continued to serve as port of entry for immigrants.
