Spiritual Practices: Confession

Details

Following our pattern of alternating between spiritual practices of self-denial and engagement, we will be introducing a new practice of engagement that is core to the Christian life: confession.

Confession of sin has been practiced in a variety of ways throughout Christian history, but it has always been understood to be a vital part of spiritual practice. Evangelical churches generally emphasize that spiritual practices and good works do not earn our salvation, and rightly so. The forgiveness of God is given by grace through faith. However, an overly simplistic understanding of this doctrine can live many Christians questioning the necessity and importance of confession of sin.

This meetup will explore the theological foundation of confession, briefly explore how different Christian traditions have practiced it, and then we will get practical with some tools and assignments for personal growth.
