Let's visit The Bronx, the city's only borough whose first 17th century European settler was from Scandanavia (Jonas Bronck). The South Bronx is the birthplace of hip-hop and has a unique history spanning agriculture to industry, has a wonderful array of cultural attractions, street art, as well as some distinctive public buildings and architecture. We'll learn how the communities has been striving to revitalize -- with artist's spaces and community gardens and newer housing. We'll start out at the Bronx Museum of the Arts the South Bronx which always has interesting exhibits (free admission). We'll check out the Melrose neighborhood and Mott Haven Historic District and "The Hub," -- South Bronx's downtown -- and see the Grand Concourse, one of NYC's most magnificent streets with its art deco and beaux arts apartment houses.

After our adventure there will be an optional brunch/lunch/drinks at the Bruckner Bar and Grill. The tour will end near 138th Street & 3rd Avenue. Please note that there will be a good 3 miles of walking.

For additional directions (including driving) to the museum see link below:

Note we may opt to take a bus at one point so please have an extra fare on your metrocard. Note: if you would like to travel together from Manhattan we can meet at Columbus Circle at 10:00am. I will be by the statue of Columbus by the fountains - across from the Time Warner Center and plan to depart by 10:10 am. My cell is 646-596-3005.
