Walking Tour Overview
We'll visit the Mount Morris Park Historic District along with the rest of neighboring South Harlem (110th-123rd Streets), with its magnificent late 19th century residential architecture along distinctive houses of worship, scenic Morningside Park and Marcus Garvey Park. As we uncover the layers of the area's rich history, you will learn about Jewish Harlem (1880s - 1930s) and the birthplace of be-bop jazz in the 1940's at Minton's Uptown Playhouse.
You will also experience the current street life of the area along lively Frederick Douglass Boulevard with its dozens of restaurants and cafes, along with Little Africa along West 116th street with its restaurants, outdoor market (pictured above) and businesses. Pictured above is the local African outdoor market.
Tour will end convenient to the C, 2, 3 subways and bus routes at West 116th Street and the A,C,D at 125th Street. Optional afterparty at a local establishment for dinner or a drink.
