Details

**Please RSVP at: https://www.sierraclub.org/washington/outings**

Restoring Spokane Falls: the work of Sierra Club and Avista to restore flows to Spokane Falls, followed by a walking tour of the waterfalls (Upper Spokane Falls and Lower Spokane Falls). The focus will be on human habitation from time immemorial followed by the coming of the railroads to the town of Spokane Falls, opening of the mines, explosion of population 1883 - 1910, the promise of Expo '74 in recovering Spokane Falls, and the citizen-led efforts to protect the waterfalls, river, and aquifer. In this work we honor the tribes and elders, including Upper Columbia United Tribes, Coeur d'Alene Tribe, Kalispell Tribe, Colville Tribe, and Deb Abrahamson.
The first teaching site will be at the base of the lower falls with lessons from Peter Campbell, tribal leader. The second teaching site will be at the Great Northern Clock tower with the railroad history of Spokane. The third teaching site will be at the Dock at the Opera House. And the last teaching site will be at *snxw mene'* ("sin-HOO-men-huh) [Canada Island ] to learn about Sierra Clubs campaign to restore water to the waterfalls.
