Ends: From Directionality to Intentionality, or Form to Function and Back Again

Part 4 of our series on How Everything is Connected.

In previous meetings we've talked about matter, energy, and information, which roughly correspond to the late Alvin Toffler's three waves (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Third_Wave_(Toffler_book)) of higher-order emergent wealth systems and the agricultural, industrial, and communications/information technology revolutions that gave rise to them. In this presentation, I will propose that we are undergoing a value revolution (https://www.amazon.com/gp/review/R1WH799L01B8B4) that is bringing about a fourth-wave wealth system based primarily on and driven by prosumer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosumer) choice, enabled by mass customization tools made possible by third wave technological advances and leading to both increasing economic diversification (for example in trends in the workforce away from traditional career paths and toward independent contracting) and greater economic integration (as new platforms emerge to organize these federations of freelancers). We will also discuss how this already has major implications for best practices for anyone starting a business today.
