Bush Survivor Weekend

Details

Most people end up in a survival situation without notice or choice. As beautiful Australia is, it is very harsh outside the city limits. Learning a few key skills could help save your life, that of a family member or maybe a stranger's.

Wild Cleanse invites you join us for a weekend workshop with Terry Hewett. Terry is an Order of Australia medalist (OAM) for service to adventure tourism and charities; and has served 12 years in the military of which 10+ years in the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS). He has a Commendation for Bravery (CDFS - Military). Regards survival training in the SAS, Terry provided training whilst in the Regiment, and ran for 16 years a survival course at TAFE that also included mining groups as clients.

In the Kimberley, Terry has been running a style of Man Vs Wild, 70 km trek with limited food in a realistic survival situation. Here you can really develop and test your survival skills of fire, shelters, navigation, fishing and hunting wild cattle.

Operational support will be provided by WA's leading adventure company, Adventure Out (AO). AO have been taking people on extreme adventures since 1984. They are the ones who make WA's highest Bridge Swing (Mandurah) and Highest Abseil (QV1/Urban Descent) possible. www.adventureout.com.au

Location: Private property in Karrakup (near Jarrahdale; 52km SE of Perth. Exact location will be provided closer to the date.

Accommodation: You are only required to bring a sleeping bag. You will be provided a tarp and will be taught on how to make shelters from available shrubs.

Toilets: There is a portable chemical toilet, a pit toilet and for emergencies, one in the house 300m away.

Food: The laws on foraging/trapping/hunting even on private property are quite strict. Even gathering native bush foods is not allowed in most cases. But there are rabbits on the property and some snaring/trapping will be demonstrated to prepare you for a survival situation. Further, supplementary (ie minimal) food rations will be provided. We request that people not BYO.

Pests: Please bring a repellent. Snakes are everywhere but humans are not part of their food cycle and hence the negligible number of annual bite incidents. Instructors are also trained in responding to snake bites.

Pets: We know how inseparable you are from your loved one but they can attack or scare native wildlife. Please discuss with us for exceptions on a case by case basis.

Packing list: Minimal. No tents, camping chairs etc required. List will be emailed to all confirmed.

Target Group: All levels. Beginner friendly, with no prior knowledge of bush survival assumed.

Solo Guests: Most people on our trips including this one do not know others! We know how anxious it may seem to come to such an event by yourself. Do not worry!
