Bdote/Wita Tanka Casual Hike
Details
Join us on a hike along the South side of the Mississippi where it converges with the Minnesota river. Known to the Dakota as Bdote the region is considered sacred as well as the origin of the Dakota peoples. We'll meet at the Lilydale Trailhead on the South side of the Mississippi inn St. Paul just off I-35E.
A former railroad bed, the trail is flanked by the rivers on the right and a high cliff on the left. As we walk the slightly inclined trail the rivers drop for spectacular views including Wita Tanka, otherwise known as Pike Islang. We’ll walk roughly a mile-and-a-half then return. Placards with historical information and a few benches accompany us on the way.
Parking at Lilydale Trailhead is a bit limited. A mile away is a large parking area at Lilydale Off Leash Dog Park where we can shuttle a few folks if necessary.
This event is also posted in the MNeurodivergent Twin Cities group.
We'll meet at Lilydale Trailhead parking area.
