This panel is about the rising popularity of podcasts for brands, causes and entertainment. Podcasts have enjoyed a resurgence and now 21% of Americans over the age of 12 say they have listened to a podcast in the last month, nearly a doubling in just three years.

What's the reason for podcasting's popularity? Should your brand or organization consider starting one, or sponsoring one?

Our panel of experts will bring you up to speed on the virtues -- and challenges -- of podcasting. With any luck you too can decide whether the time is right to invest in this tried-and-true medium for storytelling.

Your panelists:

• Omar L. Gallaga: When he's not busy reporting on Technology Culture for the Austin-American Statesman or 512tech.com, Omar is co-hosting Statesman Shots, a culture podcast covering life in entertainment in Austin.

• Moby Hayat of Austin Fire Show: Moby is the host of Austin Fire Show, a podcast dedicated to telling the stories of entrepreneurs here in Austin. Previous guests range from a UT professor, to Austin Airport designer, and even an improv teacher.

• Paul O'Brien: Paul works in Venture Capital Economic Development, serving the investment and venture capital economies directly, through thought leadership, consulting, and startup development both within Texas and abroad. He's the founder of MediaTech Ventures, a founder and managing director of the Texas Technology Council, partner in 1839 Ventures, and serves on the Boards of TexNext and VenturePoint.

• Laura Lorek: Laura is the founder of SiliconHillsNews.com, a technology news site covering Austin and San Antonio. She is also host of the Silicon Hills News' weekly podcast, I2I or Ideas to Invoices, which explores how innovation gets commercialized featuring interviews with key entrepreneurs and others in the Central Texas technology industry.

Dave Manzer will moderate the panel. Dave is the founder of PR over Coffee and Manzer Communications, a marketing & PR agency for fast-growth startups and enterprises.
