Join us on Aug 13 at 9:30a PST/ 12:30p EST, for a live meetup with Billy Rennekamp (Interchain Foundation), Zaki Manian (Iqlusion), and Emin Gun Sirer (Ava) to discuss the differences between Cosmos' Ethermint and Ava's Avalanche.

Ethermint is an implementation of the EVM that runs on top of Tendermint consensus, a Proof of Stake system. This project has as its primary goals:
-Hard Spoon enablement: This is the ability to take a token from the Ethereum mainnet and "spoon" (shift) the balances over to another network. This feature is intended to make it easy for applications that require more transactions than the Ethereum main chain can provide to move their code over to a compatible chain with much more capacity.
-Web3 Compatibility: In order for applications to be moved over to an Ethermint chain existing tooling (i.e. web3 compatible clients) need to be able to interact with Ethermint.

Avalanche is an open-source platform for launching highly decentralized applications, new financial primitives, and new interoperable blockchains.
Unlike legacy blockchain networks, which have only one blockchain and one validator set,Avalanche is a heterogeneous network of many blockchains and validator sets.
Just as Ethereum allows one to launch a decentralized application defined by a smart contract, Avalanche allows one to launch a decentralized applications defined by a Virtual Machine, where each dApp runs on its own independent blockchain.

Speaker Bios:

Billy Rennekamp: Billy is the Grants Manager on the Board of Management of the Interchain Foundation. He supports different entities and contributors across the ecosystem. Billy is also the founder of Clovers Network, a Blockchain game that encourages the creation of scarce art.

Zaki Manian: Zaki Manian wears many hats in the blockspace. He is the Executive Director of the Trusted IoT Alliance and cofounder of iqlusion validator. He is an expert in cryptography and distributed systems. Zaki is excited about extending access and availability of secure computing to as many people as possible. Zaki has been active in the blockchain space since 2013.

Emin Gun Sirer: Emin Gun Sirer is a professor of computer science at Cornell University, founder of Ava Labs, co-founder of bloXroute Inc, and co-director of the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Smart Contracts (IC3). Among other things, Sirer is known for having implemented the first currency that used proof of work to mint coins, for selfish mining, for characterizing the scale and centralization of existing cryptocurrencies, as well as having proposed the leading protocols for on-chain and off-chain scaling. Of all his collaborations, he is proudest of his contributions to the John Oliver Show's segment on cryptocurrencies.
